REVIEW: Green Mango Takeaway (Just Eat)

As well as keeping you up to date on the hottest restaurants, it’s important we school you on takeaways too. Green Mango is the new West Indian addition to Just Eat, serving up a little taste of paradise in SE1 and the surrounding areas.

It’s Friday and that can only mean one thing. Sitting for hours on Just Eat deciding on what we’re going to stuff our faces with. Green Mango Takeaway appeared to us through a haze of Chinese and Pizza restaurants, and with over 4 stars and 30+ reviews praising it’s cooking, we knew we had to see what the hype was all about.

THE MENU
The menu is surprisingly varied: Jerk Pork Ribs, various meat-filled Roti’s, and traditional staples such as Stew Chicken and Curried Goat are featured. Whilst there are an array of Smoothies, freshly made juices and even a warmchocolate brownie for dessert.

THE EXPERIENCE
Not even 15-minutes after we received the phone call telling us our food was in it’s way, we received our Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, crispy Mac & Cheese and homemade coleslaw. The quality of the meats, infused with the authentic tastes of the region really came across well. You get more than you need for a satisfying dinner and each main comes with a side of boiled rice or rice & peas. All are packaged in containers, secured with the Green Mango takeaway sticker; it’s evident that real care has been taken in their presentation, not just the cooking.

PRICE
West Indian food can generally be a bit pricey, but the quality outweighs the price; for two we spent £25. About the same amount you’d spend in a restaurant.

THE VERDICT
Every bite satisfied our hunger as well as our palette, and this is – by far – the best Caribbean food we’ve tasted in the SE1, SE16 and surrounding areas. You definitely need to bookmark these guys, they’re the real thing!

HOT TIP: You’ve GOT to try the crispy Mac & Cheese. Best we’ve had in a while!
