The London Underground Celebrates Their 150th

Take a day to appreciate The London Underground!

We take it nearly everyday, we complain about it, we brag about it, but London wouldn’t be the greatest city in the world without it. The London Underground has become such an integral part of our lives. It’s veins and arteries are intertwined under the cobbles, grass and pavements and has been this way for 150 years. The foundations of the world’s first subterranean railway were laid 150 years ago.

This year, 2013, it celebrates its 150th birthday.

The London Transport Museum has some great activities and events that are sure to get you thinking and  asking the question “just how did they build this thing”. Offering actual rides on an Original Metropolitan Line Steam train to journeys on historic buses and routes, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Not only is the museum great for all things about London Transport, but they also showcase some of the uber cool upholstery designs of our buses and trains over the years (yes London has always been cool!).
Based in Covent Garden, for £15 you get entry into this amazing and historic attraction. Within the museum there are other events going on, which may incur a fee but, trust us, it’s definitely worth it. It’s awesome to get to know the history of something we are so familiar with! The Exhibition ends on the 27th of October, so you have plenty of time to enjoy.

Hints and Tips: After why not grab a bite in one of the eateries, or take a walk around Covent Garden Market and grab a momento from your trip. They have some great fashion stalls dotted around too. Perfect for families and teens because It’s free for all under 16. Result!
